आल्हा-ऊदल–
आल्हा और ऊदल दो भाई थे। ये बुन्देलखण्ड (महोबा) के वीर योद्धा थे। इनकी वीरता की कहानी आज भी उत्तर-भारत के गाँव-गाँव में गायी जाती है। जगनिक ने आल्ह-खण्ड नामक एक काव्य रचा था उसमें इन वीरों की गाथा वर्णित है।
पं० ललिता प्रसाद मिश्र ने अपने ग्रन्थ आल्हखण्ड की भूमिका में आल्हा को युधिष्ठिर और ऊदल को भीम का साक्षात अवतार बताते हुए लिखा है – “यह दोनों वीर अवतारी होने के कारण अतुल पराक्रमी थे। ये प्राय: १२वीं विक्रमीय शताब्दी में पैदा हुए और १३वीं शताब्दी के पुर्वार्द्ध तक अमानुषी पराक्रम दिखाते हुए वीरगति को प्राप्त हो गये।ऐसा प्रचलित है की ऊदल की पृथ्वीराज चौहान द्वारा हत्या के पश्चात आल्हा ने संन्यास ले लिया और जो आज तक अमर है और गुरु गोरखनाथ के आदेश से आल्हा ने पृथ्वीराज को जीवनदान दे दिया था ,पृथ्वीराज चौहान के परम मित्र संजम भी महोबा की इसी लड़ाई में मारे गए थे जिनको आल्हा उदल के सेनापति बलभद्र तिवारी जो कान्यकुब्ज और कश्यप गोत्र के थे उनके द्वारा मारा गया था l वह शताब्दी वीरों की सदी कही जा सकती है और उस समय की अलौकिक वीरगाथाओं को तब से गाते हम लोग चले आते हैं। आज भी कायर तक उन्हें (आल्हा) सुनकर जोश में भर अनेकों साहस के काम कर डालते हैं। योरोपीय महायुद्ध में सैनिकों को रणमत्त करने के लिये ब्रिटिश गवर्नमेण्ट को भी इस (आल्हखण्ड) का सहारा लेना पड़ा था।
