Civilization gives us a shared identity, which is formed by combining our image as a mass community, a cohesive view of history, and a common destiny. It gives a definite understanding of who ‘we’ are, and along with ensuring a deep mental connection between us, the feeling that this country is worth protecting. Without this deep connection, such questions do not exist, who is this ‘we’ that has to be protected, and what is the sacrifice to do?
