लिखने के लिए एक बही-नुमा लंबी नोट-बुक होना चाहिए । जिसकी लाइनें कम-से-कम है इंच की दूरी पर हों। इसका कागज न ज्यादा चिकना और न खुरदुरा ही होना चाहिये। लिखने के लिये एक अच्छा लचीले निब वाला फाउन्टेन पेन होना चाहिये अन्यथा किसी अच्छी पेंसिल से भी लिखा जा सकता है । पेंसिल न कड़ी और न अधिक नरम ही होना चाहिये।
दूसरी बात है इन चीजों को विशेष-विधि से काम में लाने की। लेखक को नोट-बुक को सामने लम्बाकार रखकर बैठना चाहिये जिससे शरीर का बोम दोनों हाथों पर न पड़े। दाहिने हाथ से पेंसिल या कलम को पकड़ कर इस तरीके से कापी पर रखना चाहिये जिससे कि केवल नीचे की दो अंगलियाँ मात्र कापी से छूनी रहें और कलाई या हाथ कापी से बराबर ऊपर रहे जिससे लिखने में सरलता हो और थकावट न मालूम हो । बाएँ हाथ के अंगूठे और पहिली अंगुलियों से पृष्ठ का निचला-बॉया हिस्सा पकड़े रहें जिससे लिखते-लिखते ज्योंही समय मिले और पेज का अन्त सा हो चले त्योंही पन्ने को उलटने में सुविधा हो। इस बात का ध्यान रखना चाहिये कि पेन्सिल या कलम को जोर से दबाकर न पकड़ा जाय क्योंकि ऐसा करने से हाय जल्दी-जल्दी नहीं चलता और लिखने में थकावट सी मालूम होती है|
