इससे यह बात सिद्ध है कि हिन्दू जय है तब कुछ न कुछ हिन्दुत्व भी है। उस हिन्दुत्वको हम हिन्दूधम कह सकते हैं। पर ‘धर्म’ शब्दका आजकल इतना संकुचित अर्थ होने लगा है कि उससे लोग एक विशिष्ट प्रकारके धर्म-संप्रदायका ही अर्थ ग्रहण करते हैं। इसलिये इस पुस्तकमें जानबूझकर हिन्दूका वह सहज धर्म, जिससे हिन्दू हिन्दू कहता है, “हिन्दू-धर्म” नहीं कहा गया, बल्कि “हिन्दुत्व” कहा है जिससे किसी संप्रदाय के धर्मका भ्रम उसमें न हो।
हिन्दुस्थान में हिन्दू-जातिके अन्तर्गत सनातनधर्म समाजसे लेकर राधास्वामी पन्यतक नानाविध धर्म-संप्रदाय हैं । ऐसे प्रत्येक संप्रदाय या समाजका संप्रदाय धर्म उस समाज या संप्रदायका समाजत्व या संप्रदायत्व है। परन्तु इन सब समा जोंका आधारभूत एक धर्म है, एक तत्व है और वह सबके सामान्य है। उसी धर्म या तत्वका नाम है ‘हिन्दुत्व’ । व हिन्दुत्व क्या है, यह प्रत्येक हिन्दूको जानना चाहिये, प्रत्येक हिन्दू समाजको जानना चाहिये, प्रत्येक हिन्दू धर्मसंप्रदायको जानना चाहिये।
प्रत्येक मनुष्यको जैसे पहले यह जानना चाहिये कि हम मनुष्य हैं और तभी वह मानवधर्मशास्त्र में अपना विशिष्ट धर्म जाननेका अधिकारी होते हैं, वैसे ही प्रत्येक हिन्दूको पहले यह जानना चाहिये कि हम हिन्दू हैं और तभी वह अपने विशिष्ट घम-संप्रदायका अधिकारी होता है। “हम हिन्दू है” इस बात की पहचान जिस हिन्दू व्यक्ति या समाजको न हो, उसे यही पता नहीं है कि हम कहाँ है, हमारे अस्तित्वका आधार क्या है, हमारी शक्तिका उद्गमस्थान क्या है।
From this it is proved that if Hindu is Jai, then there is some Hindutva also. We can call that Hindutva as Hinduism. But nowadays the word ‘religion’ has started to have such a narrow meaning that from it people assume the meaning of a specific type of religion-sect. That is why in this book, deliberately, that simple religion of Hinduism, by which Hindu calls Hindu, has not been called “Hindu-Dharma”, but has been called “Hinduism” so that the religion of any sect should not be confused in it.
In Hindustan, there are various religious sects under the Hindu-caste from Sanatan Dharma Samaj to Radhasoami Panyat. The sectarian religion of each such sect or society is the sectarianism or sectarianism of that society or sect. But the basis of all these combinations is one religion, one element and that is common to all. The name of that religion or element is ‘Hinduism’. And what is Hindutva, every Hindu should know, every Hindu society should know, every Hindu religious sect should know……….
