महर्षि वेदव्यासरचित ब्रह्मसूत्र बड़ा ही महत्वपूर्ण अन्य है। इसमे थोड़े-से शब्दोंमें परमझके स्वरूपका निरूपण किया गया है, इसीलिये इसका नाम ” है। यह ग्रन्थ वेदके चरम सिद्धान्तका निदर्शन कराता है, अतः इसे ‘वेदान्त-दर्शन’ भी कहते हैं । वेदके अन्त या शिरोमाग ब्राह्मण, आरण्यक एवं उपनिषद्के सूक्ष्म तत्वका दिग्दर्शन कराने के कारण भी इसका उक्त नाम सार्थक है। वेदके पूर्वभागकी श्रुतियोंमें कर्मकाण्डका त्रिपय है, उसकी समीक्षा आचार्य जैमिनिने पूर्वमीमासा-सूत्रोंमें की है।
उत्तरभागकी श्रुतियोमे उपासना एवं ज्ञानकाण्ड है; इन दोनोकी मीमासा करनेवाले वेदान्त-दर्शन या ब्रह्मसूत्रको ‘उत्तर मीमांसा’ भी कहते हैं। दर्शनमि इसका स्थान सबसे ऊँचा है; क्योंकि उसमे जीवके परम प्राप्य एवं चरम पुरुषार्यका प्रतिपादन किया गया है। प्रायः सभी सम्प्रदायोंके प्रधान प्रधान आचार्योोंने ब्रह्मसूत्रपर भाष्य लिखे हैं और सबने अपने-अपने सिद्धान्तको इस ग्रन्थका प्रतिपाय बतानेकी चेष्टा की है। इससे भी इस प्रन्यकी महत्ता तथा विद्वानोंमें इसकी समादरणीयता सूचित होती है। प्रस्थानत्रयीमें ब्रह्मसूत्रका प्रधान स्थान है।

This book shows the ultimate principle of Vedas, hence it is also called ‘Vedanta-Darshan’. Its name is also meaningful because of the end of the Vedas or the guidance of the subtle elements of the Shiromag Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanishads. There is a tripartite of rituals in the Shrutis of the former part of the Veda, which has been reviewed by Acharya Jaimini in the Purva Mimasa-Sutras. There is worship and knowledge in the Shrutiyo of Uttarabhaga; The Vedanta-darshana or Brahmasutras who follow both of these mimas are also called ‘Uttara Mimamsa’.
